Christmas Vacation!

I don't know what Christmas is all about, but I like it! I got toys and Mommy, Daddy, and I went on a trip! Dollie and Oliver didn't get to go, so I guess I'm special.

We went to Melbourne, Florida where Daddy lived before he met Mommy. His father lives there and that was who we went to see. Gramps had never met me, and Daddy wanted to show me off. We got in Mommy's van. Daddy drove and Mommy held me. I had ridden in the van several times, so I wasn't afraid, but it was a long trip. I was able to see outside because it was still light, but I got bored after awhile. Mommy was wearing a jacket and I got inside and went to sleep. We stopped in Lake Wales. Mommy said we had to make a "pit stop." Mommy went inside and Daddy took me to a grassy area in case I needed a pit stop, too. I was worried about Mommy, though. I needed to protect her! But Daddy said she'd be okay for a few minutes without me. The smells were new and different, I'll tell you what! I kept an eye out for Mommy and when she came out, Daddy went in. I don't know why Daddy gave her the empty plastic bag he was carrying, but Mommy took it and we went back to the grass.

When Daddy came out, he asked if I had done anything. I don't know what he meant, Mommy wouldn't let me get into trouble! And the smells were just too interesting! Mommy said she'd put the bag in the van door so that it would be handy in case we had to stop along the way. We got back into the van and continued on our way.

Mommy and I fell asleep and didn't wake up until we got close to Melbourne. I went back to sleep for the rest of the trip. It was dark and I couldn't see anything and I couldn't play, so sleep was the next best thing.

When we got to Gramps' house, we got out and I peed. Well, it had been hours! When we went inside, there were a bunch of people I had never seen! I had to show them that I was in charge, so I started to bark at them. Everybody seem to think it was funny! I meant business! Well, after a minute or two, they stopped laughing and took me seriously. About time! Mommy gave me some of my toys and they all started talking to each other. Of course, I had to check everyone out to be sure they were okay. They seemed to check out okay and I let them pet me.

After awhile, everyone left. It was just me, Mommy, and Daddy left. Seems Gramps doesn't live here anymore. He lives in another house with Geri, one of the nice ladies I met. He kept his house for us to stay in when we come to visit. And in a few months, Chrissie and Nelson, Daddy's niece and her husband, will be moving in. They're nice, too. Geri seems to be okay, I smelled a dog on her, but it didn't smell like a Chi. I heard someone say her dog is Shitz Zhu. I think that's how it's spelled. It's a dog, so that's okay, but if it's not a Chi, it doesn't matter how it's spelled.

On Sunday, Daddy's best friend, Stewart, came to see me. Daddy called him and said he wanted to introduce him to the newest member of his family. I decided he must be alright because I smelled Chis on him. He showed Mommy and Daddy pictures of his dogs. Daddy said the next time we go to visit, we'll try to go to Stewart's house to meet the Chis. Oh, and Stewart's wife, Dina, too.

When we left to go home, it was still light, so I could see more. But, it was boring, just cars and trees and flat land. I went to sleep, but after a while, I had to poop, but I couldn't figure out how to tell Mommy. She finally figured it out and Daddy pulled over. Luckily, it was in an area where there was a parking lot. That's when I found out why Mommy had the plastic bag. She cleaned up my poop and threw it in the trash. Mommy's a good citizen. I wouldn't want anyone to step in that. Yuk!

Dollie and Oliver met us at the door when we got home. I had a lot to tell them, I'll tell you what! They acted like they didn't care that I got to go on a road trip, but they were jealous, I could tell!

Going to the Vet

Mommy said that before I went to work with her I had to have all my shots. I didn't have any idea of what she meant, but if Mommy said I had to have it, I'd get it.

So one Saturday Mommy put my harness on me and we went outside. When she opened the car door, I knew we were going for a ride. I like to go for rides! So I jumped in. It was a little high for me; Mommy drives a van, but I did it! Mommy put my riding basket on the seat and lifted me into it. I wanted to jump in, but it was a little high, even for me, and you know I can do anything! Mommy put my leash around the headrest and explained that it was to keep me safe. If we had an accident, between the basket and the leash, I couldn't go too far.

So we started out. Turned out, we were going to the Vet. When we got to the office, Mommy carried me in because I had never been there before and didn't know where I was going. There were cats and other dogs in the waiting room. All the smells! It was really interesting in there, I'll tell you what! After a little while, Mommy took me to be weighted. I weight 4.6 pounds. See? I'm not so little any more! We went into another room where Mommy put me on this high table. Dr. Nancy came in and checked me over and said I was a cutie pie. Well, I knew that! Everyone says I'm cute. She also said that I seem to be very healthy and that she didn't see any fleas. Fleas? They wouldn't dare! I'll nip them and chew 'em up! ('Scuse me, I have an itch.) Then, she stuck me with a needle! Sheese! That hurt! Just for a minute, but it hurt! What did I do to her? Then, she stuck a pill down my throat! And I thought she was nice!

We left a few minutes later. Mommy got a package of some sort. I sniffed it, but couldn't tell what it was. For some reason, I don't think I like it. I heard Mommy tell Daddy that they would have to give me a pill every month for heartworm. I don't know what that is, but I don't think I like it.

Mommy went to Burger King after the vet and got a croisanwich. One for me and one for her. It was good! But Mommy said we can't do that too often because I'll get too pudgy and that's not good for me. Shoot! I'm a puppy! I'll run it off, I'll tell you what!

Anyway, I had an adventure to tell Oliver and Dollie about.

It's Been A Long Time

It's been a long time since I've posted. I've grown alot. I'm now almost 6 months old and weight 6.2 pounds. Mommy thinks I'm getting a little pudgy, but says I'm still cute.

I had some special training the week before Christmas. The place where Mommy works trains dogs to be guide dogs for the blind. Mommy and I both know I can't ever be a guide dog; I'll just never be big enough, but Mommy thought I could use some "special training." Mommy told me all about where she works so I would know what was going to happen. I was still scared when I got there! It was loud and noisy and there were all these other dogs, and boys, and a cat, too! I was a little scared of the noise. Have you ever seen a prison movie where the sound bounces off the walls and it's hard to hear? Well, it's really like that. And hearing the cell doors slam. That's real too. And I'm not sure I'd want to eat the food all the time. Mommy says the food is very nutritious, but it doesn't smell so good.

Mommy works in a juvenile prison. Mommy told me I can't tell you anything I heard there, so I'll just say these boys committed some serious crimes, I'll tell you what! But, they are good at training the big dogs. There's a cat to make sure the dogs won't chase a cat when they are leading a blind person. Can you imagine a dog chasing a cat and dragging a blind person along? Not good. So that was how Mia came to the prison. Mommy said that because we have a cat, all the other dog programs will be required to have cats too. And that's good.

Anyway, Mommy took me to work with her. I thought she was gonna leave me there! But she came and got me when it was time to go home. I was ready to go home! I was so happy to see her! But, it was kind of interesting. The boy she gave me to was nice to me. He carried me around and tried to teach me to sit. Well, shoot! I already knew how to sit! I just want to do it when I want to do it! Oh, well. If it makes Mommy happy, I'll do it. I went to school and outside to play. But I wasn't allowed to play with the big dogs. They're huge! But I wasn't scared of them, I'll tell you what.

Mommy said I need to learn some basic commands, but another reason I went was to give the boy who was training me some extra attention. He's having a hard time with his guilt over what he did. I can't tell you, but it was pretty bad. I hope I helped.

I was only there for three days, but Mommy said I might go back another time.
